KURULU BAY, AHANGAMA, SRI LANKA
Creating space, for the poetic unfurling of you..
―This is, Ayupōtheca
We believe the first step to healing, is creating the space. Yet perhaps what's even more important than creating that space, is arriving naturally to the idea that something within you even needs mending. And when one accepts the non-linear path of healing, a colossal shift takes place in the mind, the body surrenders to the journey and profound healing begins.
Shay, the founder of Ayupōtheca and Eva, the creator of Retreats Collective, come together to explore ancient wisdom to offer the ultimate Ayurvedic Retreat, a Signature Retreat for Kurulu Bay. The synergy of their practices and rituals enhance the demystification of nature’s algorithms ―Ayurveda and the exploration of our relationship to all of life ―Jivamukti Yoga, for liberation in all forms (and formlessnesses). Journey with us, as we gently guide you back home to yourself; a safe space will be created for you to unfurl as you wish and the necessary tools will be provided to empower you along your journey of self realisation and healing.. With our non-judgemental, non-dogmatic approach to Ayurveda & Yoga, we aim to illuminate YOUR path, whatever that may be for you.
Ayurveda (for self healing)
Bespoke Ayurvedic massage rituals to melt away stresses, recirculate flow to forgotten limbs, relieve pain & strengthen immunity; a complete augmentation of mind-body-spirit, through the detoxification, fortification & rejuvenation of thyself.
Yoga (for self realisation)
Jivamukti Yoga to share the ancient teachings of yoga philosophy with our modern world in hopes of awakening our own heart, body and mind. All daily integrated practices allow for a contemplation and transformation of the relationship with both, our inner and outer worlds. Our aspiration is to cultivate awareness and appreciation of life (and all lives).
Kurulu Bay
Kurulu Bay (Sinhalese for “bird island”) is a private sanctuary built around the existing. Overlooking Sri Lanka’s largest and one of its most scenic lakes, Koggala Lake, and surrounded by lush greenery, every element has been carefully considered to offer space, privacy and tranquility, with an emphasis on health & wellbeing. Garden suites and tree houses are tucked
away on a private jungle estate; each with its own character and architectural style. The Kurulu house, used as the open space for gathering and practicing facing the sunset, gives an incredible feeling of calmness. This is an invitation for us to truly appreciate the gift of being in such surrounding Nature.
Shay Maclean
Ayu (life) potheca (apothecary); medicine in all forms
to nurture you in all your entirety; mind - body - spirit.

The Food Philosophy
When diet is wrong medicine is of no use
When diet is correct medicine is of no need
― Ayurvedic proverb
Ayurveda has long used diet as a principal means of creating health within the body and mind.
Ayurveda states that the season/weather, living environment, current state of health, digestive strength, age of a person, food selection, meal timing and state of awareness during meals all have the ability to either increase Ojas (vitality & energy) or Ama (toxicity) in the individual.
You can expect a diet that follows the wisdom of Ayurveda (nature's way) and creates health, vitality, and energy through the food we consume. Mindful attention is placed on an unsurpassed quality of ingredients. Sourcing fresh and sustainable harvested produce from the surrounding area, prepared in the open kitchen using organic oils and ingredients, served as simple, elegant ayurvedic dishes.
We cater for your dietary requirements, please mention any additional allergies or sensitivities upon booking.
