Animals & Spirits

Jivamukti Yoga Retreat

April 29th - May 4th, 2024

with Conor Byrnes & Mitch Burnett

HOSSEGOR, FRANCE

On the human level, we often find ourselves locked into the trap of identity, limitation and hierarchy, preventing us from relaxing into the ground of our being. Oftentimes it causes us to create unnecessary harm for ourselves and others, out of fears relating to imaginary responsibilities and roles.

Therefore, to unfurl from these binds, embarking on a journey beyond the boundaries of our human confines emerges as the greatest goods we can do for ourselves. There are two paths we can follow to transcend the limitations of individual identity.

The path of the animal reminds us that we are a direct expression of energy, life and nature. It expresses through connecting with physical sensations, movements, breath, exposure to cold, hunger. High-quality nourishment intertwines with immersion in a natural haven, where sauna sessions and walks in the forest lay a mosaic of sensorial experiences.

The path of the spirit invites us to ascend beyond the human realm, realizing that amidst the unending undulating tides of our personality and emotions, there is something constant within us ―the light of awareness. Regardless of the ebb and flow of external circumstances and situations, pure spirit is never absent. We transcend daily duality to find our source that eternally radiates peace.

The Airial

In the heart of the pine forest, you will find an oasis of greenery for contemplation. Located 10 minutes away from the beaches and surf spots of Seignosse and Hossegor, the ‘Airial’ extends over five hectares and combines comfort, conviviality and intimacy. The Venue offers a collection of 5 buildings, where contemporary style meets the old, a 25m heated swimming pool, an outdoor sauna and a cold plunge. The 70m2 Shala that

will steal your heart the instant you set foot on the mat with its large windows opening onto the forest. The spacious bedrooms are all decorated with natural colors and materials, mixing brick, wood and large glazing with their own en-suite bathroom, a bathtub or a large walk-in shower. Some smaller and some larger, all rooms have views of the forest and are well appointed with quality in-room comforts.

Mitch Burnett

Australian now living in Spain, Mitch´s classes are inspired and developed through a combined practice of Jivamukti and Ashtanga Yoga. Movement and Breath are used as primary tools to harmonize the Body and Mind. Our sacred connection to the Breath is given the priority throughout all of Mitch’s classes. Understanding mindfulness to establish a strong foundation of inner peace is the outcome of consistent, regular and devoted practice. Using the asana to develop deep states of concentration.

Mitch has completed studies in biomechanics with the Functional Range Conditioning system. He also studies the entire human landscape thanks to the guidance of the CHEK institute. He has a very keen interest in wholistic health and sees Yoga as a way of gaining the wisdom necessary to support individual change.

He has been blessed to study Yoga under the guidance of his primary teacher, Mark Togni and continues his education with a variety of other sincere and experienced teachers. He believes everything we are taught should eventually be shared once it has been digested and integrated effectively.

Conor Byrnes

Conor, a Jivamukti Advanced  Certified teacher based in Paris, was raised in the United States and served two years in Senegal as a member of the United States Peace Corps. Conor’s love for yoga began at the age of 18 and it has been the great joy and guide. His teachers have instilled in him a deep belief in the transformative power of asana, meditation, pranayama and deep wisdom, as well as the expansion of compassion and insight through embodied experience.

Conor recently completed his Master’s studies in neuroscience at Humboldt Universität, Berlin. He aims to synthesize contemporary science and ancient spirituality by integrating them into the light of mindful practice. Conor continues his humanitarian work in Senegal and other developing countries with his non-profit organization Jango Project.

He has had the good fortune to study with many Jivamukti teachers namely Sharon Gannon, David Life, Yogeswari, Lady Ruth and his mentor Anja Kühnel. He has mentored the Jivamukti 300-hour teacher training in India and the 75-hour Jivamukti Spiritual Warrior teacher training at Jivamukti Paris with Ian Szydlowski-Alvarez.
